Eric Rosenblum and Jon Levine are back in the Chula Vista studios for another edition of the Coming Up Short podcast and today we have a big in-studio guest, both literally and figuratively. Jonathan Cardenas or, as he’s better known as, Phat Chopz joins us for this week’s episode and boy is it a good one.

The three discuss the Homefield Comedy Club and how it’s risen to be one of the premier comedy destinations in South Florida. We also talk about Phat Chopz beginnings and how he got his comedy start. It’s gets real when Chopz delves into his inner workings and really opens up to the Coming Up Short audience.

Finally, the three talk about Mike Atcherson, this week’s standup spotlight.

Coming Up Short is back in full force as Eric Rosenblum returns from his New York City trip to join Jon Levine in the Chula Vista Studios. The pair welcome this week’s in-studio guest, South Florida scene favorite Ralph LaGuerre.

The three talk about Ralph’s beginnings in comedy and his fight not to be typecast as a certain type of comedian. Also discussed are Eric’s trip to NYC, Jon’s comedy contest hot streak, and finding yourself in a conversation when someone casual drops the n-word, but shouldn’t have.

Finally, the three turn their attention to the Standup Spotlight of the Week, Artistic Vibes and Homefield Comedy Club host Xander Rey.

Jon Levine and Eric Rosenblum are excited about this week’s episode of the Coming Up Short podcast. We’ve been trying to get this week’s guest on the show for several months and we were finally able to make it work.

This week’s guest is one of the most well known comedians in the South Florida scene, Matt Bellak. Matt runs what is arguably the best open mic in South Florida at the Funky Buddha in Boca Raton, as well as being a regular performer at both the Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach Improv.

Eric and Jon talk to Matt about the history of the Funky Buddha and how he ended up at the helm, why Matt thinks that everyone has a large penis, and what it’s like trying to explain to the senile that there is, in fact, shrimp in their pasta.

The three also discuss this week’s Standup Spotlight of the Week, Max Reiter.
